Sarah, taking our Christian faith seriously has nothing to do with biological reproduction. Jesus said to go and make disciples of men, not go and have babies to build His Church. Christians are born AGAIN. The apostle Paul, undoubtably the greatest preacher of the Gospel EVER, wrote under inspiration of the Holy Spirit that it was better to be single as he was in 1 Cor. 7:7-8. To be single and childless means to be able to wholly devote one's time (and life) to the furtherance of the Gospel.

I think the idea that we have to reproduce to counter growth by immigration reeks of racism. The United States is supposed to be a melting pot of different races, nationalities, and cultures. The concern about falling birth rates, particularly in the free world, is for another day, another blog.

It is a good and honorable thing for a couple to desire, and raise, a large family in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. I didn't dispute that. If you read my post completely and researched any of the links you'd see Quiverfull goes way beyond raising large families. It is the extreme opposite to feminism. If you agree with the Quiverfull movement and it's tenets, that's okay, but I'm still going to point out that it does NOT wholly line up with Scripture and is very legalistic.

Thank you for commenting, and may God bless you and your family too.

Hi Melodie,
My feelings on Quiverfull are I don't have a problem with that (QF). I think Christianity has bought the thoughts that we are modern and everything is ok. But our birthrate has fallen dramatically and the repercussions are huge. We are relying heavily on immigration and mixed-faith because of an aging population. I'm not saying that from a weird point of view but it is a fact. Hopefully people will take their Christian faith seriously and stand up for Jesus and what the real cost is.
God bless you and your family .

I've seen some of the legalism and extremism you're mentioning here. That being said there is a wide range of folk out there who could be considered "Quiverfull" just as there are a wide range of Baptists, Presbyterians or whathaveyou. I also think the movement raises important points about children being a BLESSING.

I also do not believe in birth control, but I wouldn't want my daughter raised in the more dogmatic families of this movement. As a society I think we ought be much more concerned about the girls raised in fundamentalist Islam than in QF homes. QF families generally don't practice genital mutilation and honour killings, or marry prepubescent children.

Anyway, I liked your post so I thought I would say hello and put my two pennies into the pot. :)

What a wonderful, intelligent, and NECESSARY article! I am no feminist...I consider myself an 'anti-feminist', but that is based on the fact that God called husbands to love their wives as much as God loved the church - enough to DIE for h...er - and I believe feminism would drag me OUT of that position which is the most blessed and wonderful place in the world! The Bible says 'Come out from among them and be separate.', that's true, but it also calls us to be SALT and LIGHT in the world, and how can ANYONE do that when they go to the extent to alienate themselves from 'normal' society that the Quiverfull movement does? (Not to mention the fact that the Bible teaches moral and fiscal responsibility, neither of which can be attended to if you are trying to raise more children than you have finances or time for!) Thank you for your start. I look forward to reading the rest!

Thank you Sharon! Daniel underwent 2 modified fasts, the first of which consisted of consuming only fruits, vegatables, and water, which is basically what I'm doing except I'm eating some raw nuts and drinking herbal tea. The spiritual principle behind The Lord's Table (Setting Captives Free) is wonderful, the idea of turning your focus off food and feasting on the Lord, depending on Him as our Sustainer, vs. just dieting and praying for strength.

I hadn't weighed myself for several days and when I stepped on the scale upon getting up today I found I lost another 2 lbs and broke my threshold! And I hadn't been trying very hard either! PTL! However, I'm still doing the fruit and veggie cleanse anyway for 3 days.

Hi:

Just a quick note to let you know that the email you received notifying you of a blog award from "onlinepsychologydegree.net" is an internet affiliate marketing scheme. I'm passing the word about this on my blog.
